CHINA Shipping (South America) Holdings Limited recently opened in Sao Paulo, Brazil, marking a further step of China Shipping's global expansion strategy, Xinhua reports.
China Shipping Group chairman Xu Lirong said the new firm in Brazil is China Shipping's seventh holding company in the overseas market. Its operational scope will cover all of South America.
Mr Xu expects that the new company's business will double in three years given China's closer bilateral trade relation with South America.
China Shipping already has three authorised agents in Brazil, Argentina and Chile, and will set up more agents in Peru, Venezuela and Bolivia, said Mr Xu. In 2013, China Shipping recorded a 180,000 TEU volume in South America. The figure is expected to rise to 200,000 TEU this year.
Mr Xu said China Shipping will expands its operations to the higher and lower ends of the local supply chain and start to offer ground transportation in the region to enable door-to-door service, depending on the progress of the new Brazil branch.
Shanghai-based China Shipping Group was founded in 1997. It has more than 100 branches, agents and representative offices in over 100 countries and regions.
