THE United Kingdom's Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) has issued a consultation document for the implementation of the revised provisions of SOLAS VI Chapter 2, which requires the verification of the gross mass of packed containers from July 1, 2016.
The MCA consultation document can be viewed on the website of the British International Freight Association (BIFA).
The BIFA newsletter highlights two specific questions that need answering within the consultation document.
The first question is: How many companies would seek to apply for validation in order to be approved to use Method 2, as defined in the Guidance Notes? The second question is: Is two years an appropriate period of validation for the use of Method 2?
The consultation period will run from March 2 to 31 and all written responses should be sent by post to Mr Keith Bradley, MCA, Bay 2/29, Spring Place, 105 Commercial Road, Southampton, SO15 1EG.
