Hanjin Heavy to build 3 of world's largest box ships for CMA CGM
HANJIN HEAVY Industries and Construction Philippines Inc, has won a contract to build three 20,600-TEUers - the world's biggest box ships so far - for CMA CGM, the world No 3 container shipping line.
According to the Korean shipbuilder, its shipyard in Subic, Zambales, plans to start delivering the ships by the second half of 2017. The Subic shipyard is capable of building two 20,000-TEU box ships at the same time, reports Philippine Daily Inquirer.
The ships will measure 400 metres in length, 59 metres in breadth and 33 metres in depth. The deck alone is as large as four football fields. If a full load of containers were to be lined up end-to-end, they would span 126 kilometres.
