MARKET NEWS/ RUMOURS
The Posidonia Exhibition, the world’s most prestigious maritime event is starting on Monday next
week, and according to the organizers, it will be the biggest in its long history, with 1800 exhibitors
from 93 countries.
About 19,000 members of the global shipping community are expected to come to Athens & Piraeus, to combine business and pleasure in the numerous glitzy & glamorous parties that already started this week in full force.
As the champagne already started to flow in the pre-Posidonia festivities, one would expect a slow week; however we understand that 9 bulkers, 5 containerships, 11 tankers and one combination carrier changed hands while the dry market continues to disappoint, floating just under the psychological 1000 mark.
Bulkers:
Clients of Blumenthal of Germany are reported to be the buyers of vintage caper CAPE OCEANIA (152K BLT 1994 CSBC/TAIWAN) for $10-$10.4 mill basis dry-docking surveys due this July, which translates to about $540 per lt.
Post-Panamax beam SEA STAR (92.5K BLT 2010 YANGFAN/CHINA) changed hands within China for $22-$22.8 mill to clients of Great Harvest of Hong Kong, while modern panamax unit GRAIN PEARL (81.6K BLT 2013 LONGXUE/CHINA) was committed to undisclosed interests for $27.5 mill. Oceanbulk controlled panamax RENASCENTIA (74K BLT 1999 HUDONG/CHINA) achieved the price of $11.2 mill from South Korean buyer, basis dry-docking surveys due this July, almost two mill less than recent sale of same age but Japanese built LUCKY LUKE (72K BLT 1999 SASEBO/JAPAN) for $13 mill. We picked up that in an off market deal, Japanese controlled supramax FATHER NEPTUNE (55K BLT 2009 MITSUI/JAPAN CR 4X30T) has been snapped by Greeks for the price of $25.5 mill, which is in line with recent sale of similar unit KOMATSUSHIMA STAR (55K BLT 2009 KAWASAKI/JAPAN CR 4X30.5T) for $25-$26.1 mill, also to Greeks.
Vintage handy AMAR JUNIOR (22K BLT 1992 SAIKI/JAPAN CR 4X30T) which was bought by her current Syrian owners six months ago for $3.9 mill, is now reported sold to Lebanese buyers for $5 mill (hefty profit of one million in half a year – not bad...).
