US west coast dockers and management still 'far apart' but will meet again
US west coast dockers and employers remain "far apart" and both the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) agree that a settlement is not imminent, reports American Shipper.
"Statements and rumors that our negotiations are 'close' to a final contract are not true. We remain far apart, and the union slowdowns continue to disrupt," said PMA spokesman Wade Gates.
Said ILWU spokesman Craig Merrilees: "It's fine to clarify that rumours of an imminent settlement may not be at hand. The fact remains that progress is being made and the talks are moving forward."
The ILWU and PMA negotiators are scheduled to get together Friday.
