Abduct 2 officers, injure 2 seamen

Greek authorities say armed men have attacked a Greek-managed cargo ship off the coast of Nigeria, kidnapping two officers and injuring two seamen.

A merchant marine ministry statement says the attack on the ship, the Perseas, occurred early Wednesday as it was moored off the port of Onne. Gunmen abducted the Ukrainian captain and Greek first engineer, while injuring two Egyptian sailors.

The St Vincent and Grenadines-flagged ship had a crew of 15 Ukrainian, Greek, Syrian, Egyptian and Filipino seamen, according to the ministry statement.

No details were available on the condition of the injured crew members.
