THE 6,732-TEU MSC Flaminia that caught fire mid-Atlantic on July 14, killing two men and injuring three, has taken on fire fighting and salvage teams to quell the last of the blaze and salvage what can be saved.
But the Smit salvage team still awaits a decision from authorities on where to tow the stricken vessel as negotiations with British, French and Belgian officials become protracted.
One cargo insurer has estimated that more than 1,000 containers from the 2,876 aboard may be lost with many more having their contents destroyed by water flooding in the course of fighting the fire.
