Cargo ship "M Star 1" abandoned off Sakata
In stormy weather the "M Star 1" ran aground late in the night of Dec 22, 2014, at 11.40 p.m. near the Akagawa estuary northwest about 800 m off the coast of Sakata in the Yamagata Prefecture, Honshu Island.
The ship was en route from Incheon to Akita.
The crew of 18, among them Koreans and Burmese, was evacuated despite of bad weather with snow Gusts with a wind Speed of 15-17 m/sec by military helicopters until Dec 23, 2014, at 7.30 a.m. no injures were reported. The vessel was open to battering by heavy swell of six meters height. J
