The box ship Tao Yan sank after collision with the larger container ship Gang Tai Tai Zhou. The accident happened on 10 nautical miles off Tianjin port, China.
The container ship Gang Tai Tai Zhou hit with her bow the starboard side of the other cargo vessel, which caused large hole in the cargo hold under the waterline, water ingress and heavy list.
A few minutes after the collision the box ship Tay Yan sank at depth of over 200 meters. The crew members of the box ship Tao Yan were rescued without any serious injuries and were transported to the local hospital.

The deadweight of the cargo vessel is 44,585 DWT and the gross tonnage is 42,323 GRT. The ship Gang Tai Tai Zhou was built in 1994 in Hdw Kiel shipyard in Germany. The ship is owned and operated by the Chinese company Hongsheng Gangtai.
