The wreck of the "Yusuf Cepnioğlu", was refloated from its grounding site off Mykonos after dismantling of the accomodation block and towed to the Spanopoulos shipyard at Salamis.
How accident had happened?
On the way to Tunisia from Izmir, the 1995-built 116-meter-long Turkish-flagged container ship Yusuf Çepnioğlu ran aground near the island of Mykonos on 8th March, 2014.
Departed from Aliaga Nemrut and bouded for port of Bizerte in Tunisia, with 14 crew member on board, Yusuf Cepnioğlu went aground at 05:30 Local Time on the northwest coast of the island of Mykonos.
The 14 crew members on board, rescued by Greek search and rescue teams..
As the ship was getting water on the ship's engine room all crew members were reported to have been evacuated due to risk of sinking.
In the statement made by the Greek Coast Guard, 11 people rescued by the coast guard, the other three Super Puma helicopters dispatched to the region that were expressed.
