Salvors in race against time to remove oil from stricken bulker
Salvors continued to race against time to pump 1700 tons fuel out of the "Smart" which was stuck at least three metres deep in the sand and was deteriorating with every high swell.
The unfavourable weather conditions has not played along with several hundred tons of oil still to be pumped out.
At present there were no signs of any Pollution and there was no fear for any oil escaping out from the vessel, the engine room was still intact and most of the oil tanks were within the vicinity of the engine room.
Salvagers were hoping for favourable weather conditions in the coming days as they prepared to start pumping out pollutants.
Once that process is complete their next task will be looking into how they would remove 150,000 tons of coal cargo off the deteriorating vessel
