ADRIATIC
The 91 m. Turkish flagged chemical tanker
“Nazo S” with 12 crew onboard caught fire on June 21, 2013,
around 6.30 p.m. about 37 Kilometers off Civita Navese in the
Adriatic Sea. The fire was caused by a short circuit. The aft part of
the ship was destroyed. The Antigua-Barbuda flagged container
m/v “Annamarie” diverted to the casualty and at 7 p.m. rescued
the crew from a lifeboat. They were subsequently delivered to
three patrol boats from Ancona, San Benedetto del Tronto and
Civitanova Marche, and taken to Ancona, where they were ques-
tioned. A Pescara Coast Guard aircraft took off to monitor the
situation. The Maritime Directorate of Ancona coordinated the
rescue operation. Two tugs of the Ravenna Sers Group which are
stationed in the port of Ancona and equipped with firefighting
systems attended. Castalia mobilized two vessels, the “Secomar
4”, stationed in the port of Ravenna, and the “Monterosa” which
is stationed in Giulianova. On June 22 at 5 a.m. the fire could be
doused with water and foam. But in some areas of the hull were still
temperatures of nearly 100 degrees. The “Nazo S” had come from
Damietta and delivered 950 tons Ethanol in Ravenna before sailing
on to Galati.by the end of September.
