“Banks will be
cornering shipowners”
Speaking at first assembly meeting after
the hot elections at Turkish Chamber of
Shipping, President Metin Kalkavan point-
ed out the financial cornering that shipown-
ers might face in the near future. “Banks
will be cornering shipowners” he said.
“This year, there is big deficit at the real
rate of debts. Assets devalue and debts
remain the same while banks begin corner-
ing us. This will be a difficult year which
all of us have to get rid of. Projections
are positive but for the prochain year”
Addressing MLC 2006 issue, Kalkavan
said: “ “We have a problem called MLC
2006. Coasters and old vessels will be in
big trouble. It may cause an escape from
the Turkish flag. Most of our sjhips can-
not go out of the harbour due to MLC
2006. We cannot do anything without our
Administration” he said.

Zorlu geçen DTO Genel Kurulunun
ardından 7 Haziran günü yapılan ilk meclis
toplantısında konuşan Yönetim Kurulu
Başkanı Metin Kalkavan; “Bankalar, ar-
matörün üzerine gidecek” dedi. Kalkavan;
“Bu sene borç reel oranları çok açık
verdiği bir sene. Değerlerin çok düştüğü
borçların sabit kaldığı bir zamanda
bankaların sıkıştırmaya başladığını görüy-
oruz. Bu sene zor bir sene elbirliği ile
atlatmamız lazım. Söylediğim gibi olumlu
bir projeksiyon görülüyor ama gelecek
sene için.” diyen Kalkavan; “MLC 2006
diye bir problemimiz var. Koster ve eski
gemilerimizde çok büyük sıkıntılarımız
olacak. Türk Bayrağından kaçışa sebebiyet
verebilir.Çalışmalar devam ediyor. MLC
2006 dan dolayı bir çok gemimiz sefere
çıkamaz.Bizim sektörümüzde devletsiz
hiç bir şey yapılmaz.İnşallah iyi bir dönem
geçireceğiz.” şeklinde konuştu.

“Opposition makes the ruler democratic”
Speaking at the meeting, Head of Education Commission, Yusuf Sertkaya said: “This
is the first time in the selection process, our Assembly has won a polyphonic structure.
There is opposition opposition, there is democracy in our assembly. I was elected to
the educational group. Almost all income has been transferred to Piri Reis University
which was the most important project of the previous administration and we will relieve
it from personal bail, by transferring the issue to the committee. Finally, 44 per cent of
the votes said no to current administration, please act accordingly”
