On Aug 30, 2018, around 11 a.m. fire broke out in the engine room of the 'World Bora' off Rügen island. The crew of four initially prepared to abandon ship after they remarked smoke. They finally managed to gain control of the fire by sealing off the engine room and flooding it with CO2. The offshore supply vessel 'Sartor' came to assist and launched two of its boats until the lifeboat 'Bremen' which was actually based at the DGzRS station Sassnitz arrived on scene at noon. They transferred eight fire fighting experts from the volunteer force Sassnitz onto the crew transfer vessel. They still measured temperatures of 300 degrees Celsius which were, however, slowly dropping as the fire seemed to be out. The 'World Golf' of the same company took the CTV in tow and pulled it towards the ferry port Sassnitz/Mukran which was 11 miles away. On scene were NNE winds of two - three Beaufort. The convoy was escorted by the 'Bremen' and the police boat 'Stubnitz“. After arrival in the port the fire rescue of Sassnitz took over. German report with photo: https://www.seenotretter....
