Enroute from Nemrut to İzmit in the in Kocaeli province the "İrem Kaan" ran ashore in the Sokakağzı Bay in the northwestern Turkish province of Çanakkale on June 18, 2017, at 1 a.m. It ran onto the beach 15 km north of the antique city Assos. After the ship got stuck 20 meters off the Koyunevi Köyü Sokak Ağzı Plajı'nda in the Mytilini Strait, north of Lesvos, the vessel traffic service authorities of the Çanakkale Strait asked the captain if he needed help. He responded to handle the situation on his own and in fact was abled to pull the ship off the beach. It was moored for surveys by divers in the Sivrice Bay.
