BOEING has delivered a new B737 MAX8 aircraft to Xiamen Airlines, bringing the carrier's fleet to 210 aircraft and making it the largest all-Boeing fleet in China.
The delivery also marked a significant milestone for the US aircraft manufacturer as its latest delivery means that the company has now delivered 2,000 aircraft to China's civil aviation sector - an achievement clearly displayed on the aircraft's hull with the words, '2000th Boeing Aircraft for China' painted on it.
With the delivery of the new Boeing737 MAX8, Xiamen Airlines' fleet now consists of 210 aircraft and becomes the largest all-Boeing fleet in China.
As one of the first US-based companies to enter China, Boeing took its first orders from commercial airlines operating within the country in 1972 for ten B707s.
China's civil aviation has become one of the country's fastest-growing industries. In 2017 the sector served 550 million passengers, 239 times the amount flown in 1978 and representing 29 per cent of the country's total for all forms of mass transportation, a Boeing statement said.
Xiamen Airlines is now the fifth largest aviation group in China and has maintained the longest profit record in the nation's civil aviation industry, having remained in the black for 31 years in a row.
From the introduction of Boeing 737-200s and 737-300s in the 1980s, 757-200 in the 1990s to the 737NG series just after the start of the millennium, and followed more recently by the new 787 Dreamliner and 737MAX, the carrier has worked closely with the aircraft manufacturer over the years.
