An Irish resident was due to appear in court in Rome in connection with the disappearance of his wife during a Mediterranean cruise. The couple, who have lived in Dublin for several years, had gone on a Mediterranean cruise on the "MSC Magnifica" with their two children. When the ship docked back at Civitavecchia on Feb 20, 2017, it was discovered that the woman was missing. The local authorities were alerted and boarded the ship to investigate the matter with the ship being released a few hours later. Police located the man and his two children at Rome's Ciampino airport where they were about to board a flight to Dublin. The man was then arrested. It is understood the couple's two young children were being cared for by social services in Italy.
