RUSSIA's Volga-Dnepr Airlines has flown 80 tonnes of equipment from Germany to South Australia for General Electric to build a 32-turbine wind farm, reports London's Air Cargo News.
A 36-tonne wind turbine hub, four metres in length, and three 12.6-tonne generators were positioned inside the Antonov 124-100 freighter at Cologne-Bonn airport using the aircraft's own loading system and external crane.
Volga-Dnepr's in-house team organised road transport to the German hub and then to the constructing place near Hallett in the mid-north region of South Australia after its arrival in Adelaide.
'This delivery is a very good example of how the long-term cooperation and permanent dialogue can result in saving time and money for our customer,' said Volga-Dnepr deputy commercial director Ekaterina Andreeva.
'Working closely with Volga-Dnepr's longstanding partner GE, we could combine the urgent shipment of the wind turbine hub needed for the replacement and the transportation of three generators for new installations at the wind farm according to the project schedule,' she said.
