Mangust patrol boats
RUSSIA's flag carrier Volga-Dnepr Airlines has transported a 60 ton shipment of Mangust patrol boats onboard a flight from Moscow to Vladivostok to help maintain security during the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit on behalf of Russian security agencies.
The flights transported two Mangust boats for the Vympel shipyard, designed to operate on call in territorial waters, each weighing 30 tons and 20 metres long. The boats were transported on Volga-Dnepr's AN-124-100 freighter by a crane of 110-ton lifting capacity and a ramp and rail system.
"We have considerable experience of this kind of delivery. Volga-Dnepr Airlines has carried boats, yachts, submarines and submersibles all over the world during its 20-year history, including the transportation of another Mangust boat to the Far East in 2006, " said the airline's manager for Russia and Japan Marat Mukhametzyanov of the high-value shipment delivered in a short timescale.
The patrol boats will form part of the security operation in place to protect participants in the APEC summit, to take place in Vladivostok from September 1-8, 2012.
