SPAIN's Valenciaport handled 485,382 TEU in November, up 20.5 per cent year on year, as well as a 14 per cent rise all goods crossing the docks to 7,341,375 tonnes.
The November statistics left the port authority feeling confident that - despite the Covid crisis - Valenciaport will again exceed the five million TEU mark by the end of the year.
Said Valenciaport: 'This increase in commercial activity has been achieved with fewer, larger, and more eco-efficient ships (549 ships compared to 647 in November 2019).
'These data confirm the tendency of shipping companies to concentrate the cargo they transport on increasingly larger ships and to choose mixed hub ports (which generate economies of scale by bringing together large volumes of import/export and transshipments) strategically located, such as Valenciaport,' said the statement from the port authority.
