Two Chevron chartered tankers carrying Venezuelan crude arrived in us waters on August 21, marking the first such imports since Washington issued a new restricted licence to the company, reported Reuters.
The US Treasury last month authorised Chevron to resume operations and exports from Venezuela after a three-month pause caused by tighter sanctions. The Mediterranean Voyager and Canopus Voyager loaded Boscan and Hamaca crudes earlier in August following talks with PDVSA, Chevron's joint venture partner.
The vessels will discharge at Port Arthur, Texas, and New Orleans, Louisiana. Two more Chevron cargoes from Venezuela are en route to the US. Chief executive Mike Wirth said flows would resume in limited volumes.
Chevron had not lifted Venezuelan crude since April, when PDVSA cancelled shipments over payment issues linked to sanctions. In the first quarter, Chevron exported about 252,000 barrels per day to the US, processing some at its own refineries and selling the rest to independent refiners including Valero Energy and PBF Energy.
