UASC's 15,000-TEU Linah calls at Gulftainer's Khorfakkan terminal
UNITED Arab Shipping Company's (UASC) 15,000-TEU Linah has made a maiden call at Gulftainer's Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT), becoming the largest box ship to visit the terminal to date. The event coincides with UASC's 40th anniversary.
The Linah is one of the mega ships in UASC's US$2.3 billion newbuilding programme that comprises a total of 17 ships to be delivered between November 2014 and 2016, of which 11 are 15,000-TEU vessels and six have a capacity of 18,800 TEU, a Gulftainer Company Ltd statement said.
Speaking at a ceremony to mark the mega ship's arrival, chief operating officer at USAC, Waleed Al Dawood, said: "Today is an example of the strong ties between Khorfakkan port, Gulftainer and UASC. Together, we continue to provide our UAE customers with efficient and effective green shipping solutions, with UASC vessels making a significant 428 calls to Khorfakkan in 2015.
To date, UASC has taken delivery of six 18,800-TEU ships and seven 15,000-TEU vessels.
