Two warships of the naval forces of Poland collided in the Baltic Sea during maneuvers.According to the Trojmiasto.pl, "little contact" happened between the missile frigate "General Tadeusz Kościuszko" (given to Poland by the Americans in 2002) and the rescue vessel "Lech".
The warships were supposed to participate in maneuvers for one more week, but on Wednesday, February 18, they had to return to the base, the Gdynia port. "Nothing scary happened.
The ships just contacted each other. It would be exaggeration to call it a collision, it is more a contact," pointed out the Captain Przemyslaw Planetski, the representative of the Third flotilla ship in Gdynia.
The accident happened on Monday, February 16, in heavy seas allegedly because of the one ships' mistake during maneuvers. A commission was set up to investigate the cause of the incident. Appraisal of damage is being conducted after which the renovation of the affected ships hull will begin. According to preliminary data, the damage is small and wont require a long stay in port.
