2008 Turkish Shipping Awards Finale with all the winners
Nominations now open for “New Look” 3rd Annual Lloyd’s List Turkish Shipping Awards 2009
Nominations are now open for the third annual Lloyd’s List Turkish Shipping Awards to take place at a new prestigious venue, the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus, on Wednesday, May 20, 2009.
For the past two years, this internationally-recognised event has paid tribute to the outstanding achievements by Turkish companies and individuals who have provided extraordinary service to the Turkish maritime industry.
Companies both large and small have been honoured in the past and the awards have also recognised personalities such as Cengiz Kaptanoğlu and Capt Altay Altuğ who have devoted a lifetime of service to the Turkish maritime community.
This year, in a period of great change, the event which will take a new prestigious luncheon format, will again recognise outstanding achievement, innovation and lifetime service. The wonderful tradition established by the Lloyd’s List Turkish Shipping Awards in 2007 and 2008 will continue in 2009 and we are confident that this year’s Awards Ceremony will offer the same international focus as previous events.
Event organiser, Peter Attwater, said that in the current difficult times, it is more important than ever to recognise those companies and individuals who have gone to extraordinary measures to combat the most challenging trading climate in memory.
“We believed it was time for change in venue and format of the event. The luncheon and ceremony will provide an ideal opportunity for guests to network with the decision makers, while enjoying a social occasion with wives and partners in the magnificent surroundings of the Four Seasons with, of course, a chance to congratulate the winners.
The Lloyd’s List 2009 Turkish Shipping Awards is again endorsed by the Turkish Chamber of Shipping and many other Turkish maritime associations and we are most grateful for that support.
We are also grateful for the past and current support of many sponsors of the Turkish Shipping Awards and congratulate them for their continuing recognition of this important national event which focuses the international spotlight on Turkey.
We look forward to welcoming the Turkish maritime community to the 2009 Lloyd’s List Turkish Shipping Awards,” he said.
2009 Awards
A new category specifically aimed at recognising a young Turkish executive working in the maritime sector has been introduced this year. The New Generation Award will be open to those nationals under the age of 35 involved in the industry in shipowning, ship management, shipbroking or any other maritime activity.
This year’s award categories are: Dry Cargo Company of the Year, Tanker Company of the Year, Ship of the Year – sponsored by ClassNK, Shipyard of the Year – sponsored by Bureau Veritas, Yacht Building Company of the Year, Shipping Financier of the Year, Port or Terminal of the Year, Training and Education Award, Maritime Services Award, Achievement in Safety or Environmental Protection – sponsored by Lloyd’s Register, Turkish Shipping’s New Generation Award, Turkish Shipping Personality of the Year, and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The nominations for all these awards will be judged by a new independent panel of shipping experts which is currently being assembled by the organisers.
Nominations can be made on-line now by visiting www.lloydslist.com and clicking on the Awards link and then to the 2009 Turkish Shipping Awards link where all details of the event will be available.
All members of the shipping community are invited to nominate, for a colleague or for their own company, and the judges may only select a winner from those who have been nominated. It is important to note that winners will not be chosen by the number of “votes” received, but will be judged on the quality of the submitted nomination.
