A Turkish frigate which received a distress signal from a Danish ship Wednesday night 200 nautical miles offshore Oman, rushed to rescue the ship.
An information note posted on the official web site of the Turkish General Staff Thursday, said TCG-Gaziantep rushed to the aid of the Danish flagged LEOPARD which sent a distress signal last night saying it was attacked by sea pirates, but radio contact was lost shortly after.
TCG-Gaziantep came across the ship which looked deserted with engines dead at 4:00 p.m. today. The Turkish frigate asked permission to board the ship. Permission was granted and Turkish marines boarded to search the ship.
General Staff said details of the incident would be posted on the web site after further information became available.
