TURKISH Airlines has started a scheduled cargo operation between Istanbul and Namibia's capital Windhoek under the Bilateral Air Service Agreements (BASA) between Namibia and Turkey aimed at promoting international commercial air transport services, business and trade between the two nations.
The service will operate once a week between Istanbul, Johannesburg and Namibia's flagship airport Hosea Kautako International Airport (HKIA) in Windhoek, according to Namibia's Airports Company (NAC).
'We are excited to have Turkish Airlines onboard during these tough times and the establishment of this new route will add value to the enhancement of promoting Namibia as the logistic hub,' said NAC's CEO, Bisey Uirab.
Turkish Airlines cargo sales director for Africa, Serkan Sonmez, commented: 'The Turkish Airlines is looking forward to strengthening the export trade between and Namibia and believe that we can support the export market with service and expectation they deserve.'
Other airlines calling at HKIA since September include Air Namibia, Airlink, FlyWestair, Ethiopian Airways, and Eurowings, according to Xinhua.
