The U.S. Coast Guard was working to free the 'Sea Cypress' which got stuck on a sandbar off the beach in Lavallette after breaking free of its moorings in the early morning of July 24, 2018. All four people on board wer esafe, and the tug was not taking on water. Two tugs sent by the Coast Guard have so far been unable to wrest the tug free. They hooked up a second tug to the first to try to get more power. The Coast Guard dispatched the first rescue boat from its station in the Manasquan Inlet and established contact with the captain shortly after 3:30 a.m. The tug's tether line became entangled in the propeller.
