THE co-founder and chairman of Hainan province's troubled aviation conglomerate, HNA Group, Wang Jian, 57, was killed on Tuesday in a fall off cliff in the south of France at Bonnieux, 50 miles north of Marseilles.
Bloomberg, quoting police, said he fell 15 metres while having his picture taken. The death is not being viewed as suspicious, police said.
HNA Group's board and management team, led by co-founder and chairman Chen Feng and chief executive Adam Tan, issued the following statement: 'HNA Group extends deepest condolences to Mr Wang's family and many friends.
'Together, we mourn the loss of an exceptionally gifted leader and role model, whose vision and values will continue to be a beacon for all who had the good fortune to know him, as well as for the many others whose lives he touched through his work and philanthropy.'
HNA Group, largely an aviation conglomerate before it widely diversified, has been in financial trouble for almost a year and has been undergoing extensive restructuring to reschedule debt and sell off assets.
