ENVIRONMENTAL attorney Tracy Egoscue has been named president of the Port of Long Beach Harbour Commission and will preside over the board's next meeting, scheduled for August 13.
Ms Egoscue, a former Deputy Attorney General for the State of California, was chosen by her board colleagues to serve in the presidency for a year. She takes over the role from Lou Anne Bynum, who remains a member of the five-person body.
Ms Egoscue was appointed to the first of two possible six-year terms on the board by Mayor Robert Garcia in September 2014, reports Long Beach Press Telegram.
'I am honoured to be afforded this opportunity by my fellow Commissioners,' Ms Egoscue said in a prepared statement released by the port. 'I look forward to working with each individually as well as collectively as we pursue what is best for the port and the city of Long Beach.'
Each July, the commission chooses a president and other officers for one-year terms. In addition to Ms Egoscue, the board also chose Bonnie Lowenthal as its incoming vice president and Frank Colonna as secretary. Both Ms Lowenthal and Mr Colonna are former Long Beach City Council members.
