TWO supply ships off Libya, the size of fishing trawlers, have been attacked by aircraft off Benghazi, resulting in one sunk, according to the MAST maritime security update.
The Tobruk regime warplanes attacked both ships, which they said were carrying men and munitions to Benghazi to fight against them.
Three tankers have also been attacked while trying to enter ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and Levant) held ports. The Tripoli based branch of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) has criticised the Tobruk regime for the attacks on vessels.
MAST advises that any commercial agreements with the NOC should be scrutinised to confirm which branch (Tripoli or Tobruk) of the NOC has approved it.
"Entering a port without permits from the branch with jurisdiction for that port could result in the vessel being attacked or arrested," said MAST.
Once besieged, Aden has now been relieved and retaken by Saudi-backed forces of the Yemeni government in exile from the Houthi troops who hold the national capital Sana'a.
The Saudi-led forces broke months of stalemate by seizing the airport and then driving the Houthis out from the west of the city.
As a result the first shipments of food and medical supplies in four months has been delivered to the garrison and Houthi force have retreated north to the town of Taiz, retarding pursuit with artillery.
Support for the Shia Houthis is low in Sunni south Yemen. The ousted Yemeni president remains in exile in Saudi but some government official have taken charge in Aden.
In Kenya, the government has released a number of convicted Somali pirates enabling them to return home. While danger is still apparent, waters off Somalia has had no pirate incidents reported into the second quarter, reports the International Maritime Bureau (IMB).
