Tianjin's duplex navigational channel soon to start sea trials run
TIANJIN Maritime Bureau has completed collection of geographical information for mapping of the Tianjin port double-lane navigational channel scheduled open for traffic later this year, Xinhua reports.
Today's channel capacity is reaching the limit as ship traffic increases rapidly. More than 70 per cent of the vessels using the channel are under 10,000 tonnes. Tianjin built a one-way channel for them on each side of the major channel used by large ships. Once completed as a two-way single channel will be the largest such navigational channel in the world.
The authorities in charge of the mapping of the navigational channel said they have published detailed hydrographic charts showing water depth, shipping lanes, allowable speeds, marking obstacles and port boundaries.
