On Aug 13, 2017, the "Ventrans II", 2588 ts (EU-No.: 02333127), enroute from Mannheim to Rotterdam, was disabled and ran aground on the Rhine near Neuwied at 7.45 p.m. due to a technical malfunction which caused a blackout on board and subsequent rudder failure. The fire brigades from Weißenthurm and Neuwied were alerted. The captain was able to carry out an emergency anchoring manoever, and the crew started attempts to get the engine running again. At 8.55 p.m. the systems were working again. the fire boat from Koblenz and launches of the water police escorted the tanker to a berth for repairs. The ship berthed in Rotterdam on Aug 17.
