GROUND handler Swissport has signed a 10-year agreement to lease a 36,000 square foot grade A warehouse with office space at the SEGRO Park Portal Heathrow in London.
The deal comes as cargo volumes continue to rise at London Heathrow airport, the UK's leading air cargo hub, where volumes are currently up 1.6 per cent year to date at 981,690 tonnes, London's Air Cargo News reported.
Swissport UK has been a SEGRO customer for 13 years and now leases a total of 185,000 sq ft of space across Heathrow and Stansted airports.
SEGRO Park Portal Heathrow is positioned on-airport, with direct access to the southern perimeter road and is close to both SEGRO's cargo terminal and the UK's motorway network.
SEGRO director for greater London Alan Holland said: 'Levels of cargo at Heathrow will continue to increase in the near-term future, and following the parliamentary vote for an additional runway, freight capacity is expected to double, so it's vital for our customers to have the space to respond to current and future demand.'
