The Swedish Coastguard has been activated since the sinking of the "Sternö" and has been in continuous contact with the emergency services since the accident occurred on municipal water. In the morning of Feb 24 the Coast Guard sent a surveillance aircraft to determine if any oil leaked, and environmental protection ship "KBV 051" was ordered to the scene along with rescue divers from Gothenburg. During the day the divers investigated the wreck's hull using a submersible and in the afternoon the Coastguard was asked to assist with the draining of water from the ship. The Coast Guard had resources on standby during the evening and night to possibly assist the emergency services when necessary.
