EGYPT's Suez Canal Authority changed the cancellation charges for ships booked into transit the newly expanded Suez Canal under its revised rules of navigation edition that came into effect on August 13.
The new fee levied on mega-ships and liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers is US$3,000, "due to the special arrangements made, such as escorting by tugs," a statement from canal authorities said, reported GAC Hot Port News.
Booked transits may be cancelled or altered by notice to the Suez Canal Authority offices at least 12 hours before the booked date, otherwise, the vessel shall be charged for cancellation.
For cancellation of a transit after the ship has been enlisted in the convoy; or if cancellation is made while entering the canal $5,000 will, in both instances, be charged.
In the event that cancellation takes place 12 hours or less before convoy time, large ships will be charged $3,000; and smaller ships $1,000.
