INDIA's SpiceFresh, a subsidiary of SpiceJet, has launched two new daily air cargo services from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport on a Hong Kong and Dubai routing from Guwahati and Kolkata, partly for fresh produce such as mandarin fruits for export.
SpiceJet said its flights will serve Hong Kong with 18 tonnes of freight between Guwahati and Kolkata daily, while both the Hong Kong and Dubai routes will be connected via flights which operate on the airline's international network, reported Times of India.
Flagging off their journey, industries and commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said he hoped that their first two loads of 1,000 kilogrammes of mandarin fruits, which were produced in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, will usher in a bright prospect for exporting agri-horti produces from Assam to the global market.
'Assam as well as the other northeastern states are considered to be an organic hub. With a view to creating a sustainable market for these fruits, the state industries and commerce department has initiated efforts to provide logistical and infrastructural support for export of agri-horti produces of the state,' said Mr Patowary.
This comes as the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority is working with various stakeholders to bridge the gaps for exports and to link fresh produce grown in the northeast of India to the international market, an airport official said.
The ceremony to mark the launch of the new air cargo services was jointly organised by the state industries and commerce department, Airport Authority of India (I) and I Cargo, Logistics and Allied Services Company Ltd.
