HONG KONG's Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) - now a Cosco unit, has received the 2018 Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (regional) at a ceremony held by the Singapore Environment Council?s (SEC) Conference Day event on August 30. The carrier was first presented with the award in 2015.
The SE (regional) award category recognizes local or international companies and organisations with outstanding environmental performance in Asia. This year the regional scope was expanded to include companies from Greater China, Japan, South Korea, and ASEAN.
In the review and evaluation process, the SE Assessment Committee (AC) assigned both the Singapore Exchange Commission (SEC) and international auditing firm Deloitte to undergo on-site assessments on each participating company?s environmental performance.
Upon receiving the award, OOCL director of trades Stephen Ng said: ?Taking the award again this year is a huge encouragement for us to continue pushing forward with our agenda to further develop our sustainability profile and meet the evolving needs and expectations from our stakeholders.?
The shipping line has over the years implemented a number of initiatives to address global environmental challenges, which include supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), investments in making its assets environmentally-friendly, developing green IT solutions and greenhouse gas management.
