GEELY, third ranked automaker in China, behind Volkswagen's FAW, SAIC and Honda's GAC, Dongfeng, has, launched the locally-assembled Proton X70 car model in Malaysia, marking a further step in Geely's globalisation after its purchase of 49.9 per cent of Proton.
Geely has since transformed Proton from seven aspects in talents, channels, cost, quality, industry chain, factory renovation and new product development.
According to Geely Auto CEO An Conghui the company needs to localise suppliers to legally enter the Maylasian market. At present, Proton X70 has reached a localisation rate of more than 40 per cent. Thirty-eight local suppliers are capable of producing supporting products, and the total number of locally produced parts of Proton X70 has reached 484.
From January to November, Proton's market share in the Malaysian market has reached 16.2 per cent. It is expected that its sales will exceed 100,000 units this year.
