TWO consecutive months of improvement for the FTR Associates' monthly Shippers Condition Index shows some lightening for shippers but its readings in negative territory, -5.4 points for June and -3.6 points for July remain troubling.
FTR head consultant Larry Gross said the second half of 2012 will see capacity squeeze and truckload rates impact the index once more, with a regulatory environment putting further pressure on the trucking sector.
"The improvement in the SCI must be regarded as a mixed bag in that it is the result of tepid demand from shippers and therefore is a product of the current softness in the economy," said Mr Gross, according to Newark's Journal of Commerce.
