Shipmanagers supervision contract for newbuildsin
International Shipping News 06/09/2014Shipmanagers are frequently called upon by their owner clients to supervise newbuilding projects on their behalf.
The scope of the manager’s duties and powers need to be carefully set out in an agreement consistent with the provisions of the underlying shipbuilding contract.
At present there is no standard form of contract available for this important supervisory role. In response to a number of requests from shipmanagers, BIMCO has agreed to development a new contract which it believes will provide a valuable addition to its existing suite of ship management related agreements.Work on this project will begin in London on 8 September and is expected to take around a year to complete.
The project is headed by Ajay Hazari of Anglo-Eastern Shipmanagement, assisted by Maurizio Bergamachi of D’Amico, Steve Davies of Graig Shipping, Charlotte Kirk of ITIC and Justin Turner of Curtis Davis Garrard.
The key issues for discussion will include the scope of work; administration and site supervision, responsibilities and liabilities; and remuneration.Source: BIMCO
