Shipboard guards show weapons, suspected pirate skiff turns tail
THE US Navy said a cargo ship was approached by two suspected pirate skiffs between Yemen and Djibouti, but they turned tail when alarms sounded and armed guards showed their weapons.
It is not known whether the men in the skiffs were armed but one approached from the port side between Eritrea and Djibouti and the other passed close west to east, according to the GAC Hot Port News.
Procedures conducted included sounding the alarm and activating the armed security team. The skiffs moved away when the guards showed their weapons.
The master also reported sighting of a larger vessel within six nautical miles on its southbound bow which he presumed to be the pirate mothership.
