Shanghai off 0.36pc to 2.76 million TEU in June, but up 2.9pc in H1
THE latest statistics announced by Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) show that port of Shanghai lifted 2.76 million TEU in June, down 0.36 per cent year on year.
During the same period, SIPG's throughput tonnage increased 3.85 per cent to 44.07 million tonnes, according to Xinhua's report.
During the first half of year, Shanghai's cumulative container throughput totalled to 16.32 million TEU, up 2.91 per cent year on year, slightly lower than the previously announced 16.34 million TEU estimate. Half-year throughput tonnage total increased 6.77 per cent to 268 million tonnes.
In the first quarter of this year, SIPG recorded a container throughput of 7.8 million TEU, up 3.5 per cent year on year. Its overall tonnage grew 7.8 per cent to 130 million tonnes. The group earned a net profit of CNY1.01 billion (US$164.55 million) in this period, up 10.41 per cent.
In 2012, SIPG stayed as the world's largest container port with a box throughput of 32.52 million TEU, up 2.5 per cent. Its throughput tonnage climbed 3.7 per cent to 502 million tonnes.
