AS two of China's major ports for foreign trade, Shanghai and Ningbo customs recorded slower containerised trade cargo growth during the period from January to November in 2011, which fell into single-digits, although trade value kept up with double-digit growth, Xinhua reports.
In November, Shanghai's trade with EU grew six per cent, 7.7 per cent slower than in October. Trade with US grew 12.4 per cent, 11.2 per cent slower. Trade with Japan increased 9.4 per cent, 7.6 per cent slower. Trade with ASEAN grew 14.5 per cent, 4.7 per cent slower.
During the first 11 months, Shanghai recorded a trade value of US$73.95 billion, up 19.6 per cent year on year. But its containerised foreign trade cargo grew 3.3 per cent, to 20.32 million TEU.
In the period from January to October, Ningbo's foreign trade cargo value climbed 27 per cent to $16.62 billion, but only increased 7.86 per cent to 7.49 million TEU.
From January to November, Shanghai's trade with the European Union valued $16.26 billion, up 16.5 per cent year on year. Trade with US grew 16 per cent to $12.36 billion. Trade with Japan went 19.9 per cent to $98.5 billion. Trade with ASEAN countries grew 26.2 per cent to $78.63 billion.
