SEASPAN has taken in charge the 10,010-TEU MOL Beauty, the sixth of ten neopanamax containerships built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding that were ordered with the backing of long-term charters by MOL in 2013. She is to join the G6 Alliance's Asia-Europe loop 1.
The ownership of the ten ships is split equally between Seaspan and Greater China Intermodal Investments (GCII), a Marshall-based investment vehicle established by Seaspan together with the Carlyle Group and the Washington family. All ten units will be managed by Seaspan.
Seaspan and GCII have together ordered 25 x 10,010-TEU ships, of which 13 have been delivered so far. Apart from the ten MOL ships, seven are chartered by Hanjin Shipping and four by Maersk Line. The last four units, scheduled for delivery in 2016-17, have no known charterers, reported Alphaliner.
Seaspan still holds options to purchase up to four additional ships of either 10,010 TEU or of a new 14,000-TEU YZJ design, for delivery in 2017 and 2018. The company has until the end of June to exercise these options.
