Seaspan has also entered into contracts with Hyundai Heavy Industries for five new 14,000-TEU ships for $550 million to be delivered in 2015, according to linervision.
Vessel utilisation was 99 per cent in the second quarter and 97.5 per cent in the first half, against with 99.4 per cent for the quarter and 99.2 per cent for the half last year.
"During the first half of 2013, we generated strong and stable results and once again increased our common share dividend," said Seaspan CEO Gerry Wang.
"Seaspan's strong balance sheet combined with its technical and operational expertise in large modern containerships position the company to continue to execute its growth strategy and provide charterers with their desired vessels," said Mr Wang.
"Seaspan continues to capitalise on attractive growth opportunities," he said. "We have commenced the third quarter by signing a major newbuilding contract and are in the process of finalising long-term time charter agreements for these vessels."
