Seaspan 14,000-TEUer adrift in Taiwan typhoon, hits 2 shipyard cranes
SEASPAN's 14,000-TEU YM Wind broke from its moorings in Taiwan's Kaohsiung harbour and went adrift in 230-mile per hour winds in Typhoon Meranti last week.
The Taipei Times reports that local shipbuilder CSBC said delivery of the US$150 million cargo ship would be delayed three months because of the damage.
In 2013, Seaspan commissioned CSBC to build five 14,000 TEU cargo ships, of which three have been delivered.
The unmanned vessel, which suffered serious damage as it drifted along the quay colliding with two cranes's spars and booms, reports the Maritime Herald, of Varna, Bulgaria.
Local authorities dispatched three tugs to stop the 145,077-dwt ship colliding with other vessels or running aground. The vessel was finally docked.
The YM Wind is under construction for Hong Kong's Seaspan and will be chartered by Yang Ming after certification.
