The salvage operations at the 'SSL Kolkata' have been suspended and will resume only after July 17, when a ship, with equipment to pump oil out of the vessel, arrives from Singapore. Coast Guard Dorniers were carrying out sorties in the area to look out for any oil spill. An IAF copter has been put on standby to carry out pollution control operations with a specialized underslung bucket. Salvage experts had originally attempted to bring in the tug 'MCS Elly II' from Chittagong for salvage operations. However, a financial dispute led to this plan being scrapped.
