The "Condor" was reported to be in danger of sinking on Aug 11 in Brugge where the ship is detained. The abandoned ship was tilting and leaking oil. The oil was removed by the port authority which already has a lawsuit against the shipowner from Suriname. The ship reached Zeebrugge in April 2010 with a cargo of rice from the Caribbean. There were 47 defiencies found by the maritime police, regarding safety and hygiene, and the crew consisted largely of illegal aliens.
"There is a legal process put in motion, but that is likely to last for years," says Scharlaeken. "Meanwhile, urgent repairs should be performed. The ship is sinking and that may bring the ship traffic along the inner harbor at risk. Last year when we boarded, the ship was all water. "
"There is no one on board the ship, said port chairman Joachim Coens. "We have initiated a legal process to the Condor road. Reported that the ship is sinking, we will not have received. But we carry out checks at regular intervals to monitor the condition of the ship to follow. "
