RUSSIA's TransContainer posted a two per cent decline in container rail volume in fiscal 2013 to 1,454,000 TEU, a loss attributed to increasing competition and a weaker economy.
"Under these circumstances, the company is taking steps aimed at addressing the market challenges and customers' requirements, as well as maintaining the level of profitability," the company said.
"This decrease was mainly driven by a 8.3 per cent drop in domestic transport volumes, partly compensated by a 5.3 per cent growth in international movement," said a company statement.
Revenue generating container volumes were down 0.7 per cent year on year to 1,113 TEU for the full year 2013, reported StockMarketWire.com.
TransContainer's estimated share of Russia's rail container transportation for 2013 decreased to 47 per cent against 50.4 per cent in 2012.
The company's rail container terminal network volume in Russia came to 1,319,000 TEU, a fall of 7.6 per cent year on year.
