Rotterdam port is to open a new Scheldt-Seine inland shipping link by 2021
THE Rotterdam Port Promotion Council (RPPC) has announced that financing for the new Scheldt-Seine connection to expand inland shipping options from 2018 to 2021.
This was discussed at a seminar in Lille involving Danser Group managing director Ben Maelissa, Port of Rotterdam development chief Peter ten Broek and RPPC managing director Marjolein Warburg.
The presentations were followed by discussions among 60 French shippers and forwarders as well as 15 Rotterdam logistics service providers.
Connections between northern France and the port of Rotterdam are good with a train leaving Rotterdam five times a week for Dourges, and the inland shipping schedule also includes a number of departures per week.
These connections, which were launched this spring, serve as a hub from and to other destinations in the south of France, and mark an important step forwards for the Hauts-de-France region and Rotterdam's service providers.
